Whatcom Falls Mill Company records 1886-1964.

Articles of incorporation and dissolution, financial records,correspondence, advertisements, maps, and newpaper clippings documenting the business activities of the Whatcom Falls Mill Company. The mill manufactured a variety of products including bevel siding, sash and doors, as well as lumber. The records reflect the history of the organization from incorporation in 1895 through dissolution in 1941 and includes photographs, an original drawing of the mill, aerial surveys, and photographs of other area mills and logging activity. Other items of special note include correspondence and newspaper clippings regarding the Lumber and Sawmill Workers Union, a 1887 map guide to the city of Seattle surveyed by Whitworth and Thomson, and volume VI of Hough's American Woods, published by Romeyn Beck Hough between 1888 and 1928. Each volume consists of wood samples from trees specific to a region of the United States, volume VI represents the Pacific Slope. The records also include the personal papers of the mill's founder and president, George W. Loggie, including correspondence and family photographs.

The mill, located on Whatcom Creek in Bellingham, was originally the Washington Colony Mill, positioned on a site established by Henry Roeder and J.E. Peabody in 1853. In 1895, George W. Whatcom Falls Mill Company was located in Bellingham, Washington Papers of incorporation were filed on October 28, 1895 by George Loggie and Samuel J. Knight. Loggie was born June 22, 1851 in Loggiesville, New Brunswick, Canada and emigrated to the American West in 1879 and began working the logging business by working in mills in Oregon and Washington.
